Moving to Austria: documents for registration
Moving to Austria as a Dutch or other EU citizen? Keep address registration and EU…

Prepare for two different registrations
For Dutch and other EU citizens moving to Austria, address registration and registration of EU residence are separate procedures. Keep a document list for each authority so that a confirmation from one procedure is not mistaken for the other.
Ask which records need translation before ordering. Our German translation service helps you discuss the requested documents, language combination and delivery format.
Understand the address registration form
The Austrian government’s address registration guidance generally requires registration within three days of moving into accommodation. Registration takes place after you actually move in. The accommodation provider signs the registration form, known as the Meldezettel.
The form and the registration confirmation are different items. Check the local registration authority’s current document list and ask which identity or civil-status records it needs in your situation.
Keep EU residence registration separate
EU citizens entitled under EU law to stay for more than three months must register their stay within four months of arrival. The registration certificate guidance describes the Anmeldebescheinigung and the evidence relevant to employment, study or other qualifying circumstances.
Use the instructions for your own circumstances. Ask the authority which original records and translations it needs, rather than assuming that completing the Meldezettel also completes EU residence registration.
Brief the translator for each document request
If an authority requests a translated civil-status record, use our birth certificate translation or marriage certificate translation service to discuss that record. Include the authority’s instructions with your enquiry.
Work and education requests may involve a different recipient. For diploma and transcript translations, identify the employer, institution or recognition body and explain its requirements. Send complete scans and flag attachments, stamps and differences in names.
Request a quote with the receiving authority’s instructions
Request your no-obligation quote with the records, target language, Austrian recipient, its instructions and deadline. Urgent Vertalen will confirm the translation work we can arrange, price and delivery time before you order.
Our document preparation checklist helps you organise the files. For the wider preparations before departure, see the moving-abroad document guide. Use the competent authority for residence eligibility and registration decisions.
