In total approximately 14.5 million people speak the language, with 9.9 million of them living in Hungary. This means that (after Turkish) it is the biggest European language that does not belong to the Indo-European language family.

Hungarian is a Finno-Ugrik language and is in fact the most widely spoken Finno-Ugric language. The Hungarians refer to their language as Magyar.

Why choose Urgent Vertalen for your legalizations?

A translation from Dutch into Hungarian is always performed by a translator who is a Hungarian native speaker. Moreover all our translators are translation graduates at bachelor level or higher.

Every text is unique, so we look at the type of text involved in each translation assignment. We believe it is only right that a native speaker translator who possesses sufficient experience of your professional terminology should perform your translation. So a technical Dutch to Hungarian translator will never be given a legal document to translate. This is one reason why you can depend on us to deliver a good translation between Hungarian and Dutch.

As a translation bureau we translate brochures, CVs, correspondence and handbooks on a daily basis. These translations are always performed carefully by one of our native speaker translators. We don't just specialise in Dutch to Hungarian translation. Our translation bureau also frequently handles other language combinations such as Spanish to Hungarian or English to Hungarian.

Many of our new and existing clients, such as government bodies, international businesses and private individuals need an urgent translation of for example a diploma, deed, passport or job application into or from Hungarian. As a Hungarian language translation bureau we offer you and our existing clients our fixed competitive tariffs, with no additional so called "urgency surcharge”.

If you are not satisfied with your translation then we will simply refund your money to you!

  • You save time and effort.
  • You don’t need to take a day off work to visit the various official bodies.
  • You don’t need to keep driving back to The Hague, so you save on travel costs.
  • Urgent Vertalen is an expert in the legalization of your documentation and is always up to speed on the latest rules relating to legalization. This means you won’t be confronted by any nasty surprises when you visit the various bodies involved.
  • Once your certified translation is finished we can start the whole legalization process immediately, meaning that the legalization will be completed sooner.
  • The documentation will be sent to you in traceable form. This way you will know precisely when you can expect to receive your legalised documents.

About the Hungarian language and the country

Language developments within Hungarian

Developments within the language got underway during the nineteenth century and were spearheaded by writers like Ferenc Kzainczy. A lot of new words were added and many regional terms were introduced. Latin terms were also translated literally and certain words which originated from German were replaced.

The most important characteristics of Hungarian

With most Finno Ugric languages it is the case that a lot of information is combined within one word by means of word endings. This is also characteristic of Hungarian. Two words are joined together to create one new word.

Because Hungarian belongs to the Finno Ugric language family it is related to Finnish, Estonian and Karelian. The connection goes a long way back in time, which means that these days there are very few similarities.

Hungarian is a difficult language for Dutch people to learn (and for people from other countries with an Indo-European language). There are also a number of clear differences between Hungarian and Dutch, such as:

  • The accent is always on the first syllable of the word;
  • Sentences generally have a falling intonation, except in the case of questions;
  • The grammatical gender (masculine/feminine) does not exist in Hungarian;
  • After using a numeral the noun is always singular;
  • A lot of prepositions are used in Dutch. Hungarian uses postpositions and suffixes which are recombined with endings indicating first, second, third person etc..

Some facts about Hungary

  • The oldest metro line on the European mainland is located in Hungary. The only metro line in the world which is older than metro line 1 in Budapest is the London Underground.
  • 20% of the entire population of Hungary live in Budapest.
  • Paprika is one of the best-known Hungarian products. It is also used extensively in Hungarian cuisine and Hungarians eat more than 500 g of paprika powder a year!
  • In Budapest people choose a bakery and in principle they remain loyal to their baker throughout their lives. Gerbault is the most famous cake maker in Budapest.
