Sworn translation of a will
Has a will been drawn up by a deceased person and did the deceased reside abroad? If that is the case, the will has to be sworn translated. Are you unsure whether the deceased has drawn up a will? This can be checked in the Central Register of Wills. You can check with the Central Register of Wills whether a will has been drawn up, if so, at which civil-law notary it was executed, and on what date the will was drawn up However, no substantive information from the will is ever shown To request the contents, you can contact the civil-law notary or the notary office where the will was drawn up. Once you have obtained the will, the next step is the translation of the will. A will must be translated by a sworn translator.
Your translation in 3 easy steps
Send us the text that needs to be translated per email, in Word or PDF format, or send us a scan or picture.
Your translation will be quickly made for you by a professional (sworn) translator.
You will receive your translation by email and, in case you requested a sworn translation, also by direct mail or courier.
Sworn translation of your certificate of succession
With a certificate of succession, heirs can prove their right to an inheritance to the authorities that require this. A certificate of succession can only be drawn up by a civil-law notary. For example, a certificate of succession is requested when the deceased owned real estate, a bank account or pension abroad. A sworn translator with years of experience in the legal field can provide a translation of a certificate of succession.

Everything you need to know about Legal translations
A certified translator with legal expertise
Complicated documents. A will always has a specific structure and reflects the purpose and meaning of the text according to the wishes and requirements of the deceased. The translation of a will, a certificate of succession and a certificate of executorship must be provided by a sworn translator with legal expertise. It is very important that the translator has knowledge of legal jargon so that they are able to understand the source document and will translate it using professional jargon with the exact same legal meaning. It is therefore crucial that our legal sworn translators are aware of the latest additions and changes in the legal field. At Urgent Vertalen you can confidently have a certificate of executorship, a certificate of succession and/or a will translated to and from different languages, such as Dutch, English or Spanish. Also with translations into and from all other languages you have come to the right place at our translation bureau.
The will and the certificate of succession
If the deceased has not drawn up a will, the law determines who the heirs are. Are you interested in how this is legally established? For more information, check out the website of the national government: https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/erven/vraag-en-antwoord/wat-is-de-wettelijke-verdeling-bij-erfrecht. If a will has been drawn up, it always states the wishes of the deceased. However, from the will it cannot always be determined who will receive the inheritance, as it is possible, for example, that the person who was to receive the inheritance has deceased. As a result, the inheritance must be divided differently than the deceased would actually have wanted. The certificate of succession therefore clearly reflects what ultimately really happens with the division of the inheritance.
Legalization service offered by Urgent Vertalen
If you have to settle an inheritance abroad, in some cases not only the sworn translation will have to be legalized, but the source document as well. The legalization of documents and the provision of sworn translations is what we do on a daily basis. Our project leaders know and understand the legalization process inside out, and help ensure that your documents are accepted. Since we are conveniently located in The Hague, we take care of the legalization for you by bicycle. This saves time and ensures that we can guarantee you a competitive rate. We are happy to assist you in going through the legalization and translation process with you, so that you will not be faced with any surprises afterwards. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.
