When is it necessary to have a vaccination certificate translated?
When a country is unable to read the international or European vaccination booklet or certificate in its own official language, they ask you to bring a sworn translation of the vaccination booklet or certificate on your trip. The necessary proof of vaccination may be related to the translation of a corona vaccination certificate or yellow fever vaccination certificate. As these requirements differ from country to county and changes take place on a daily basis, it is very important to contact the Dutch ‘GGD’ (Municipal Health Service), the embassy or the consulate of your country of destination shortly before departure to make sure you have the most recent information on the topic of mandatory vaccination.

Translating a vaccination booklet
Do you have an appointment for a vaccination soon? Then this vaccination is entered in the vaccination booklet (in case you purchase this or already have one). The vaccination booklet is international proof of vaccination. As the vaccination booklet is drawn up in Dutch, English and French, there are many countries that accept the vaccination booklet as-is. There is a more extensive version of the vaccination booklet as well, the so-called European Medical Passport. The European Medical Passport also includes the Spanish, Danish, German, Italian, Greek, Finnish, Portugese and Swedish languages. There are, however, countries where a proof of a (mandatory) vaccination must be presented in the national official language of that country, like Chinese or Turkish. When you possess a vaccination booklet and you have chosen to, among other things, have the corona vaccination included in this, it is advisable to have a sworn translator translate the vaccination booklet translate instead of individual vaccination certificates. Translating a vaccination certificate for a visa application
When applying for a visa for a (longer) stay broad, it may be the case that the embassy or the consulate of that specific country asks you to provide vaccination certificates for specific vaccinations in the official language of the country. This means that you have to provide a sworn translation of your vaccination certificate. In doing so, the visa application for specific countries is often experienced as complicated and time-consuming. Documents often have to be legalised prior and after a sworn translation has been arranged. Does a regular translation suffice?
An official translation is necessary because the vaccination certificate is an official document. An official translation is called a sworn translation. A sworn translation can only be provided by a sworn translator who has taken the oath in court and is subsequently registered with the court as sworn translator. When a sworn translation is finished, the sworn translator always affixes the necessary initials, signature and stamp. Reference is made to a unique number that can always be used to verify whether the sworn translator is actually sworn in and registered with the (Dutch) court. Which countries have a mandatory Covid-19 vaccination policy?
For an overview of the countries that have made the corona vaccination mandatory, please consult the website of the central govenrment or the GGD (Municipal Health Service). You may also ask the embassy or the consulate of the destination country about the corona vaccination. Some countries deem the translation of a recent negative PCR test sufficient. You can also have Urgent Vertalen urgently provide the translation of a PCR-test. Make sure you have the correct information in respect of any mandatory corona vaccinations or potentially the mandatory PCR test. This helps prevent unpleasant surprises.
Which language can I have my vaccination certificate translated into?
A vaccination certificate can be translated into any official language. This means we can provide a translation, inter alia, in Russian, Indonesian, Arabic and Chinese. However, it is important to verify whether the desination country actually needs a translated vaccination certificate or that the vaccination booklet or vaccination passport suffices.
